Technical Writer 4

Job Description:
Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, or maintenance for paper, multimedia or web-based publication. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation. Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. May document engineering processes and specifications. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.

Knowledge:
Wide-ranging experience, ability to use professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

Job Complexity:
Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data that requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Internal and external contacts often pertain to company plans and objectives.

Supervision:
Determines methods and procedures on new assignments, and may provide guidance to other personnel.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
• Extensive knowledge and hands on use with the following software programs:
• Robohelp 7.0 +
• Adobe Acrobat
• Adobe FrameMaker 8.0+
• Strong technical knowledge / background
• Ability to dive open issue to conclusion in a timely manner
• Experience working with offshore development personnel
• Experience with Snagit/Image Editor to capture and edit screen captures
• Experience documenting both Windows and Web-based applications
• Knowledge of computer networking and video compression terminology and principles is desired
• Experience creating PDF documentation using Acrobat
• Experience working in a small pubs environment with shifting priorities and frequent release schedules
• Experience using bug tracking applications, ClearCase as well as Microsoft SharePoint would be a plus
• An interest in applications, tools, or processes that allow content sharing/collaboration between local and distant content providers (SharePoint, Wikis,etc.)
• Experience establishing and managing both traditional, sit-down reviews as well as Acrobat shared - PDF reviews

Education:
Graduate coursework may be desirable
